Calling both Advance Adapter and Marlin Crawler they answered "It cannot be done" when asked "can you adapt dual transfer cases to the A340H automatic transmission?"

Dual transfer cases have not been a reality for Toyota automatics from the year 1984 to 1995 and a half until just now!  Matt Branson owner of Skyway Transmission and four-wheel drive maniac has invented the Gear Slug, an adapter that allows the popular gear-driven transfer cases to be doubled up behind the A340H automatic transmission.  The adapter's design required specific knowledge of the internal workings of an automatic.
The transmission that was in the later Toyotas is known as the A340F.  In March of 2000, 4x4wire.com posted an article with a gentleman who really wanted to adapt Dual T-cases to his '95 4-runner.  Marlin was skeptical but he did amend the problem by fully replacing the transmission altogether with the A340F and then was able to add dual transfer cases.  He had to modify the later model transmission to make it properly adapt.  It even required "very precise machining" of the housing for the speed sensor.

This rather complicated adaptation has now been remedied with the Gear Slug.  For all you extreme rock crawlers out there with a Toyota from 1984 to 1995 with an A340H automatic who want to put dual transfer cases behind their transmission, you have come to the right place.  This setup is much simpler and allows you to utilize your existing transmission.  At this point it is the only tested unit in existence and is also the first.
We have been putting the Gear-Slug to the test in multiple wheeling adventures on the rocks and rough trails and on the paved roads beginning from 07-02-05.  Not one problem has occurred.  The internal diameter of the tunnel was designed so that it would hold a minimal of T fluid so as not to rob the transmission of oil during vertical climbing conditions.  If the adapter was the size of a gallon jug (similar to Inchworm's design) it would cause the transmission to lose too much fluid at vertical angles for extended periods of time.  It only takes a loss of 2 quarts for slippage to occur in the transmission.  Included in our kit is our extreme triple heat-treated 23-spline input gear for your transfer case as well as mounting hardware and instructions.
Also available for your automatic is our extreme, high-stall lock-up converter.  It is built with hardened splines, heavy duty, wide carbon, metallic clutch liner with solid lock-up, non-dampening clutch and oversized bearings.  This converter will allow you to retain braking even with low gears and a constant positive lock-up under extreme conditions.  It is only available through Skyway Transmission.
The combined finesse of the automatic and the double-low range gave Matt tremendous amounts of traction control.  I became a firm believer in how smooth the set up was as I watched Matt's son sleep soundly while they tackled obstacles such as the rock at the top of the page.  The compound double-low range with the traction control of the automatic that the Gear slug gave us was so effective even the most abrupt approaches seemed very easy to climb.

We are proud to announce the first ever A340H dual transfer-case adapter.  The combination of the Toyota automatic and dual transfer case will be a major contender in rock crawling.  Marlin has paid us a visit, as he was very excited when he heard we made the breakthrough.  So excited in fact that he left from a four wheeling event in the Rubicon and came straight up to northern California, to our town of Paradise just up in the hills from Chico to see for himself.  He was very amazed about the reality of the Gear Slug being that he stated that this adapter was not possible.
Marlin especially liked how we incorporated the factory T-case shifter to the crawl box.  He congratulated us and assured us that he would not manufacture or copy our design.
Our set up requires complete removal of the original fluid-driven transfer case and slight modification of the transmission.  Any one with good mechanical ability can install the Gear Slug and the popular gear-driven transfer case with directions provided in the installation kit.

We hope you will buy the original adapter from the guys who invented it at Gear Slug and keep your eyes peeled for more Slug Gear from us.

    Thank you and happy wheeling.
